Inaugurated in 1935, the one in Vallferrera is the oldest federation refuge in Catalonia. Financed and built thanks to the efforts of various hiking organizations in the country, that hut that served as a mountain refuge remained for more than sixty years with the same stone and slate structure characteristic of this Pallarés valley. Aware that the equipment – ​​crossing point, among others, of the normal route of the Pica d'Estats and the GR 11 had become too small, the Federation, with the support of the General Secretariat of Sport, inaugurated its extension in 2010 and improves. From 21 they went to the current 44 places and the dining room, kitchen, bedrooms and toilets were completely remodeled. A change from top to bottom, which hikers like guards surely appreciated. The access from the Molinassa bridge (where you can get there by jeep from Àreu) is quite short, which makes it perfectly accessible on foot with children.
