The current Coma de Vaca refuge, inaugurated in September 1999, has its origins in a small stone house that was where the current building is. This house was built by the FECSA hydroelectric company in the 1950s. XX to house the workers who carried out a study on the possible feasibility of a reservoir in the Las Yeguas plan. The project did not go ahead and FECSA ceded its use to the FEEC. Today Coma de Vaca is a modern and cozy refuge, located in a bucolic valley surrounded by peaks, where the Freser and Coma de Vaca rivers converge. A crossing point for one of the variants of the GR 11 (GR 11.7), the excursion to the refuge through the Freser gorges or along the Camino de los Ingenieros from Núria is already an unforgettable experience in itself. The refuge is also part of the Trek of the 3 Refuges and the Magic Mountains route.
