The Colomina refuge building was built on the shore of the lake of the same name in 1917. It was known as the Keller house, the name of the Swiss engineer who lived and from where he directed what meant the first major hydroelectric project in the State. Once the works in the Vall Fosca area were finished, the company FECSA -currently Endesa- ceded the management of the refuge to the FEEC, which inaugurated it as a mountain accommodation in 1973. Later, in 1985, the Federation carried out a complete reform to adapt it to the needs of hikers who increasingly visited the southern sector of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. In 2011 the last reform was inaugurated, which consisted of the construction of an annex that in summer functions as a backpack area and that in the absence of a guard becomes the free refuge. With the expansion carried out in 2017, the shelter has increased considerably in comfort and space, both for users and for guards, since the kitchen and dining room space has been expanded. The number of showers and toilets has also been increased, thus adapting it to the real needs of the shelter, which had become outdated. On the upper floor the bedrooms have been enlarged, with the aim of having a greater breadth of space and the internal staircase has also been reformed to improve the conditions of use and safety of hikers. Area with a multitude of possibilities for hikers both in summer -among which is the popular Carros de Foc trail- and in winter, with mountain skiing. The GR 11.20 also passes through the refuge, one of the variants of the long-distance path through the Pyrenees.
